Fighter airplane mission requirements. HELP ?

I have to do a preliminary design project of an aircraft for my cl. First we have to make the mission requirements and then do iterations. From those iterations we choose the best plane suitable for our mission requirement. I wanted to do a long range transport airplane b/c thats what I know of the most. The mission requirement would be something like "I want to fly from NY to LA within the least amount of time using the least amount of fuel" or something along those lines. However theres not much information that i can easily find on long range transport parameters. I noticed that parameters (such as weight, wing span) of fighter plans are easy to obtain all over the web but I dont really know much about fighter planes. What would be a suitable or typical mission requirement of a fighter plane?
