you can forge them together to get items once you get further or sell them. as for the imps, there is a portal at the back of the forest where you kill the slimes and all that that takes you to a different area where there is a desert kind of area and a gry on the right, go to the gry area and imps will be there, as well as much harder slimes, which you eventually have to kill.
