My car made a clicking noise when it starts?

so i have a 91 nissan sentra. it was sitting around for about a year and at first it did not start. i have replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, oil,oil filter, starter, alternator, battery, terminals all within about 2 months ago. i was replacing one thing after another. the car still died out on me so i took it to a shop for diagnostics and they told me it was either my valves had bad compression or it was my head gaskets. they also said my Idle Air Control Motor was bad. i did a valve adjustment and that seemed to fix my car from dying out on me. i have had the car for about 5 days and when i start it, it makes a loud clicking noise. (like when your car is on and you turn the key again) i drove it this mornig to work and it worked and drove fine but when i got off work the car did not start but my check engine light and my battery light came on. And no i didnt leave anything on or doors open because i double checked. so i tried giving it a jump and the car still did not start!!!! i called my girlfriend to pick me up and about 3 minutes later i tried starting it without the cables and it turned on just fine.... anyone know what the clicking noise is and why the car did not want to start??
