Is Self Destruction a motif (Oedipus the King)?

For Oedipus the King, can self-destruction be a motif? Also can crossroads be a motif (even though it is also a symbol) can there be 'symbolic motifs'? If you have any other ideas for a motif, excluding blindness, please share!
